Dr. Claudia Seise

Post-Doc research fellow
at the junior research group “Perspectives of Religious Diversity in Islamic Theology”

Claudia Seise, born in 1983, obtained her PhD in Southeast Asian Studies from Humboldt University Berlin. During her PhD, she conducted extensive qualitative research in Indonesia. Her dissertation is entitled Religioscapes in Muslim Indonesia: Personalities, Institutions and Practices. Her research interests include: Islam and Muslim Practices in Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia, Muslim Minorities, Inter-religious Dialogue, Modern Art in Southeast Asia, and Research Methodology. She was an academic fellow at the Humboldt University Berlin in 2017 and worked as an assistant professor at the International Islamic University Malaysia from April 2018 until August 2019. She published several articles and one main monograph. Besides her academic writing, Claudia has contributed to the German Islamic newspaper since 2008. In 2019, she published a collection of essays about Islam in Southeast Asia in German. Claudia joined the Berlin Institute of Islamic Theology at Humboldt University in September 2020.
